Content Detail

Whether by keeping a journal, tracking bird or bee counts, setting up weather stations, or monitoring native plants in your area, you can add to scientific knowledge and increase your nature observation skills by recording your observations.

Learn about community science opportunities in your area where you can apply your interest in nature to a structured, observation-based program that will deepen your connection to the natural world that surrounds you.

All experience levels are welcome.

Jeff Weiss, restoration ecologist

Jeff Weiss is a restoration ecologist and watershed steward who works in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Iowa as a volunteer and professional. He founded and leads the Buffalo Grove Environmental Action Team and the Buffalo Creek Clean Water Partnership. He received his MS in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences (NRES) from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign in 2014. He now teaches classes in the NRES program at UIUC and at The Morton Arboretum. He leads the Buffalo Grove Prairie Guardians stewardship group and is president of Living Lands Conservation Company.
