Celebrate the LGBTQ+ community with activities and live music in the Children’s Garden.

Come enjoy a welcoming gathering of LGBTQ+ families and allies at The Morton Arboretum’s Pride Night on Thursday, July 30, presented in partnership with EQuality Downers Grove.

The Children’s Garden will be open until 7:30 p.m. to host arts and crafts throughout the evening, and younger children will enjoy live music from children’s entertainer Ben Tatar and the Tatar Tots at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.

Discounted Arboretum evening admission is available on Thursday, July 30, after 5:00 p.m., at a price of $5 per person. To purchase this ticket type, select the “5:00 to 7:30 p.m.” time slot during checkout.

Become an Arboretum member to enter any day without purchasing general admission tickets, and enjoy early members-only hours in the Children’s Garden every week from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Friday.

EQuality Downers Grove (EQDG) is a nonprofit organization working toward an accepting and equitable environment for LGBTQ+ people through education, support, social action, and advocacy.

Visit with Youth Outlook, PFLAG, Free Mom Hugs, Out Bowling League, and other local organizations supporting LGBTQ+ families during the event.

Live Music

Get ready to wiggle, giggle, dance, and sing with Ben Tatar and the Tatar Tots! Catch his original songs at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. in the Children’s Garden.

Tatar and his band have been entertaining Chicago-area kids and young families since 2014, with two full-length album releases and a third due out this year. Every song on the albums Food! and Seconds are about food—and no two shows are the same! Tatar’s shows offer crowd interaction, spontaneity, humor, and the guarantee that kids and adults alike will have a great time.

Try out musical instruments at Bach to Rock’s instrument petting zoo during the event.

Explore the Children’s Garden, a safe and fun-filled place designed to encourage children of all abilities to connect with nature. Far more than just a playground, it is a 4-acre outdoor play space with ponds, streams, and things to climb on. Next to the Children’s Garden is a twisty Maze Garden made of living green shrubs.

Food and Drinks

Food and beverages will be available to purchase from a concession stand near the performance stage, and the Arboretum’s new Yogurt Patch will offer vanilla frozen yogurt with a variety of toppings, served in a souvenir Vivid Creatures cup.

Accessibility

The majority of the Children’s Garden can be reached by paved paths and accessible wooden bridges. The typical grade is 2%. Several areas of the Garden have other ways to enter by a rope bridge, stairs, or ladders.

Accessible restrooms, including a family restroom, are located in the Central Plaza of the Children’s Garden, near the picnic pavilion.

The partially covered picnic area, with accessible picnic tables, is typically available whenever the Children’s Garden is open.

Sensory Supports

The Children’s Garden has a wide variety of resources available for guests with sensory processing needs, including sensory bags, proprioceptive activity boards, and much more.
