The Morton Arboretum’s Chicago Region Trees Initiative is focused on making the benefits of trees available to all people in the Chicago region and beyond.

Below are some of the programs from CRTI that help accomplish these goals.

 

Become a CRTI Partner

The Morton Arboretum welcomes everyone working to improve the health and the equitable distribution of the tree canopy in the Chicago region to become a partner of its Chicago Region Trees Initiative.

Fill out this form to become a CRTI partner and commit to actions that will ensure that trees are healthier, more abundant, more diverse, and more equitably distributed to provide needed benefits to all people and communities in the Chicago region.

Individual Action

There are many ways that individuals can get involved in helping trees in their own yards, in their communities, and throughout the region.

In many local governments and other agencies, tree care is the responsibility of staff who are not forestry professionals. Urban Forestry Basic Training is a one-day program on important forestry topics such as planting, pruning, tree biology, providing proper tree care, and avoiding tree damage during construction, offered twice a year by the Illinois Arborist Association and CRTI.

 

Oak Ecosystems Recovery Project

CRTI works locally with partners across the region to protect oak ecosystems and preserve keystone species through the Oak Ecosystems Recovery Project.

 

Tree Care Door Hangers

CRTI offers free Tree Care Door Hangers that provide guidelines on how to care for trees by watering and mulching properly.

 

Tree Management Plans

CRTI resources can help local governments develop plans for managing their trees.
