Stroll the path along Meadow Lake to see the friendly faces of nearly 50 scarecrows—each handmade by a local scout troop. Scarecrow viewing is included with admission to the Arboretum.
After walking the trail, cast your vote for your favorite scarecrow. Voting information is available around the trail and in the Visitor Center.
Registration and Participation
Online registration is now closed for 2023. Registration closed on Sunday, August 27. Registrations can no longer be accepted.
Important dates
May 15 through August 27—Register your troop for an opportunity to create and display a scarecrow.
August 31—Pick up the scarecrow frame at the Arboretum, 1:00 to 7:00 p.m.
September 25—Drop off the finished scarecrow at the Arboretum, 1:00 to 7:00 p.m.
October 1 through 31—Come to the Arboretum to view the scarecrows on display.
Cost
The fee to participate and create a scarecrow is $45. Viewing the scarecrows is included with Arboretum admission. Participating Troops will receive complimentary admission to the Arboretum for their troop members to come back and visit the Scarecrow Trail on an individual basis.
Viewing the scarecrows
Scarecrows will be displayed October 1 through 31 on the trail surrounding Meadow Lake. Scarecrow Trail is included in Arboretum admission. After walking the trail, cast your vote for your favorite scarecrow. Voting information is available around the trail and in the Visitor Center.
Prizes
The first place prize is a guided program with the education department at The Morton Arboretum. You and your troop will be able to choose from any of the available youth group and scout guided adventures. Please note: This adventure can accommodate up to 25 scouts.
The second place prize is a self-guided program through the education department at The Morton Arboretum. You and your troop will be able to choose from any of the available youth group and scouts self-guided adventures. The prize can accommodate up to 15 scouts. There is a small fee for additional scouts.
