Learn about invasive plants and forest pests that are new to our region of Illinois and how to get involved in monitoring and reporting them before they seriously damage our natural areas. Participants will learn how to identify invasive species and how to monitor and report them through the Early Detection and Distribution Mapping System to help control their spread. This program is part of Illinois Invasive Species Awareness Month, a statewide effort held each May to educate and inform citizens of Illinois about the threat of invasive species.

Tricia Bethke, Forest Pest Outreach Coordinator, The Morton Arboretum

Tricia Bethke is the Forest Pest Outreach Coordinator for the State of Illinois, based at The Morton Arboretum. Her position is funded through a cooperative grant with U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA APHIS). Tricia’s responsibilities include statewide training of key stakeholders on invasive species, forest pest identification, regulations and quarantines, and reporting protocols. Tricia also coordinates and teaches programs on tree identification, pest detection, and tree health monitoring.
