On Saturday, March 15, 2025, visit The Morton Arboretum for Tales from the Great Outdoors, a children’s book event. Listen to captivating children’s stories that ignite a love for the great outdoors, meet talented children’s books authors, and get creative with hands-on activities that support literacy skill development.

Representatives from Birth to Five Illinois, Basics DuPage, Glenbard Early Childhood Collaborative, and the Glen Ellyn Public Library will also share tips for nurturing literacy at home and accessing valuable early childhood resources in the community.

Inspire a passion for the great outdoors and the great books alike in this exciting event for readers of all ages!

Event Details

Tales from the Great Outdoors is intended for families with young children.

Entrance to the Sterling Morton Library for this event is included with Arboretum admission.

A selection of children’s books will be available for sale at the event.

Event Schedule

Tales from the Great Outdoors will be hosted on Saturday, March 15, 2025, and will be open anytime between 9:00 a.m. and noon. The event will be held at the Sterling Morton Library in the Administration and Research Center on the Arboretum’s East Side.

Children’s books readings will take place every 30 minutes between 9:30 a.m. and noon. Crafts, activities, and local literacy resources will be available for the duration of the event.

Children’s book author, Angie Marie Carlson, will read her latest book, When Leaf Let Go, at 9:30 a.m.

Children’s book author, Ruth Spiro, will read her latest book, Love Grows, at 10:30 a.m.

Both authors will be available for book signings following their readings.
