OAKtober Conference: Oak Ecosystem Recovery

Celebrate the accomplishments of the Oak Ecosystem Recovery Plan during Illinois’ Oak Awareness Month.

Content Detail

Join the Arboretum’s Chicago Region Trees Initiative on Thursday, October 3, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Arboretum’s Thornhill Education Center, as we celebrate the accomplishments of the Oak Ecosystem Recovery Plan.

Published in 2015, the Oak Ecosystem Recovery Plan has guided and inspired a decade’s worth of work on behalf of oaks across the region. These accomplishments involve efforts at every scale, from individual homeowners and landowners caring for oak ecosystems, to large-scale ecological restoration projects, to municipal and statewide ordinances.

The conference will celebrate the plan as an example of successful collaboration with a wide range of partners––including the Chicago Region Trees Initiative, Chicago Wilderness Alliance, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and the USDA Forest Service––and a committed working group led by forest preserves, conservation districts, and land trusts.

This event takes place in person at The Morton Arboretum.

Attendance at the event and admission to the Arboretum is free with advance registration.

Oak Ecosystem Recovery Project

The Arboretum’s Chicago Region Trees Initiative works with partners to protect the region’s oak ecosystems and preserve these keystone species through its Oak Ecosystem Recovery Project. The project initiates and supports oak ecosystem conservation and recovery efforts throughout the Chicago region.

Implementing the recommendations of the Oak Ecosystems Recovery Plan is a key priority of the Chicago Region Trees Initiative’s 2050 Master Plan for Trees.
