Journaling is a great way to connect with nature, reduce stress, and improve mindfulness. Nature journaling isn’t just for writers and artists; anyone can learn to journal and experience the benefits!
In this journaling workshop series, an instructor will lead exercises to quiet your mind, observe carefully, and capture your experience of the present moment with words and sketches. Participants can register for one or both nature journaling workshops listed below.
Get Started with Nature Journaling
Saturday, May 17, 2025, 10:00 a.m. to noon
In this course for beginners, an instructor will help you begin your journey into nature journaling.
Participants will learn:
- What to write or draw in a nature journal
- What supplies are needed
- Basic sketching techniques
- Tips for building a habit of journaling
- How to find sources of inspiration indoors and outdoors
The workshop will include time to complete prompts so you can practice journaling with support from your instructor. Over time, as your pages fill with observations and reflections, you will have a beautiful personal record of your growing relationship with the natural world.

Intermediate Nature Journaling
Saturday, May 17, 2025, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Do you already enjoy nature journaling? In this intermediate level course, hone your observational skills and explore ways to improve your journaling practice. With support from an instructor, participants will draw inspiration from the grounds of The Morton Arboretum and experiment with new journaling ideas.
Participants in the Get Started with Nature Journaling section are invited to also sign up for the intermediate section to further develop their nature journaling skills and establish a lasting journaling practice.
