Macro Photography: Experimenting with Science

Use science to create unique, close-up photos.

Content Detail

Remember some of those easy but awe-inspiring science experiments you could do in your kitchen as a child? Mixing food coloring into milk to create a swirl of colors, or adding antacid tablets to a glass of water and watching the bubbles form around it? Take these ideas out of the kitchen and into the world of close-up photography as you use these simple science experiments to bring new life to your images.

This two-session photography course includes in-class photography and critique. Participants will:

  • experiment with different tools to create one-of-a-kind images
  • use tools such as food coloring, antacid tablets, glycerin, milk
  • get personalized feedback through a supportive critique session

Participants have the chance to experiment with camera settings in a classroom setting and get on-the-spot direction and feedback from a professional photographer.

Participants should have a digital camera and a zoom or macro lens.

This program meets in person at the Arboretum.
