Grand Garden Walking Tour

Tour the two-acre Grand Garden with project leader Susan Jacobson, head of site planning and design at The Morton Arboretum.

This guided walk will highlight the flowering trees, shrubs, and perennial plants that bring color to the Grand Garden, as well as behind-the-scenes insights into how the garden was constructed. Learn how the design invites visitors to interact with the lushly planted garden rooms and the three main spaces—Centennial Plaza, the Celebration Garden, and the Joy of Plants Garden.

Landscape designers, home gardeners, and Arboretum lovers will enjoy exploring this magnificent, large-scale garden with a knowledgeable guide.

Come prepared to spend time walking outdoors on paved surfaces.

This program meets in person at the Arboretum.

Susan Jacobson, landscape architect and head of site planning, The Morton Arboretum

Susan Jacobson is the landscape architect and head of site planning and design for The Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL. With forty years of experience as a landscape architect in the Chicago area, she has worked in both private and public practice. She holds a BLA from the University of Illinois and is a licensed landscape architect. As a full member in the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) since 1982, she was elected Fellow in 1995, and received the President’s Medal in 2017. She has served as the president of the Illinois Chapter and the National ASLA and is still active on the National ASLA Honors and Awards and the Constitution and Bylaws committees. Jacobson also received the U of I Department of Landscape Architecture Alumni Medal in 2019 for outstanding support of the department and the profession.
