Get familiar with your camera’s capabilities in this nature photography workshop for beginners.

In this beginner nature photography class at The Morton Arboretum, you will learn how your camera works in order to maximize the quality of your photographs. Your instructor will cover camera parts and function, including memory cards and batteries, program and custom modes, ISO setting, flash, lenses, and focusing. You’ll also get an introduction to essential skills in photography: ISO, aperture, depth of field, and shutter speed.

Whether you recently got a new camera or have been wondering about the features that go unused on your camera, this class is great for beginners who want to get more out of their DSL or point-and-shoot camera.

This program meets in person at the Arboretum.

Erica Benson has been a professional photographer since 2000 and a photography instructor since 2007. She is passionate about her field and looks forward to sharing her experience with her students.

What to Know

This program meets indoors.

This program is intended for beginners who want to understand their camera’s features and how to use them.

Materials for taking notes, water, and a snack will be useful.

Please bring your fully charged DSLR or point-and- shoot camera to class, along with your manual. The instructor will not cover smartphone cameras.
