Sowing Seeds in Winter

Craft a mini greenhouse and sow seeds outdoors this winter.

Content Detail

Benefit from nature’s rhythm and learn how to sow seeds early this winter in this hands-on workshop at The Morton Arboretum.

Led by gardening expert Natasha Nicholes, participants will build a mini greenhouse from reused plastic jugs and get a head start on the growing season by sowing seeds outdoors this winter.

In this class, students will:

  • Learn which seeds can be planted in the winter and when to sow them
  • Learn techniques for sowing seeds
  • Craft and take home their own mini greenhouses

Avoid common seed sowing mistakes and set yourself up for a successful, early harvest come spring and summer. Take home a completed mini greenhouse and practice what you learned in class right away.

This program meets in person at the Arboretum.

Participants are required to bring their own materials. See What to Know for more information.
