Chad Rigsby, PhD, is a research scientist and chemical ecologist stationed at The Morton Arboretum’s Center for Tree Science as part of a partnership with Bartlett Tree Experts company.

In his role at The Morton Arboretum, Rigsby shares his valuable expertise in tree biochemical, physiological, and ecological interactions with their environment; chemical ecology; and arboriculture and urban forestry.

The Morton Arboretum and the Bartlett Tree Experts share a commitment to improving the scientific basis supporting best tree care practices in order to improve tree performance in the urban environment. Arboretum and Bartlett researchers work to generate new knowledge that will directly inform practices in the professional green industry and assist in making scientifically-based decisions about selecting, planting, and caring for trees in suburban and urban areas.

Accomplishments

Chad Rigsby received his PhD from Wright State University in 2016 and spent two years as a postdoctoral researcher at The University of Rhode Island, where he was awarded the Postdoctoral Fellow Research and Scholarship Excellence Award.

In 2018, Rigsby joined the Bartlett Tree Tree Research Laboratories as a research scientist. There, he conducts arboriculture research and interacts with arborists, urban foresters, and others in the green industry to promote proper tree management in the urban landscape.

Rigsby has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed publications, given numerous talks at society meetings, workshops, educational events, and community meetings.

In 2024, Rigsby was awarded the Early-Career Scientist Award from the International Society of Arboriculture.
