Plant Systematics and Biodiversity

Systematics, Classification, and Evolution of Sedges

Content Detail

This study focuses on the evolutionary history of the world’s estimated 2000 sedge species (Carex, Cyperacae) and uses a combination of DNA barcoding approaches and phylogenomic approaches to unravel the phylogeny and taxonomy of one of the temperate zone’s largest flowering plant genera, one that is key to wetland ecosystem function and biodiversity.

This work entails collaboration with more than 30 colleagues in more than 10 countries and has led to the formation of The Global Carex Group, an international collaborative body focused on the genus.
