Lisle, Ill. (June 28, 2023)—The Morton Arboretum and the International Society of Arboriculture have announced that registration is open for the next Landscape Below Ground V Conference, October 10–12, 2023, online and in-person at the Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois.
Since 1993, the Landscape Below Ground conferences have become renowned forums for sharing the latest research and management practices on all elements of tree root development in urban soils. Their impact on arboriculture has been significant. Practices now used every day, such as load-bearing soils that provide space for root growth beneath pavement, were introduced to international audiences at the conferences.
This year’s conference will feature speakers from nine countries and 15 U.S. states. It will bring together experts, professionals and green enthusiasts to enhance the understanding and management of tree roots, further improving arboricultural practices. Discussion and presentation topics will address tree root development and management; managing urban soil environments; tree root system biomechanics; tree production, planting, and establishment; and more.
Keynote Speakers and Presentations
The keynote speakers will be Gary Watson (U.S.), Allessio Fini (Italy), Els Couenberg (Netherlands), and Mike Arnold (U.S.). Additional speakers will include Andy Hirons, Jason Grabosky, Jim Barborinas and Andrew Koeser.
“The Arboretum and ISA look forward to fostering the advancement of knowledge in tree root development and its practical applications in our cities as we aim to improve the resilience of our urban forest,” said Jake Miesbauer, Ph.D., Arboricultural Scientist at the Arboretum. Registration is open on the Arboretum’s website. Register before August 31 to receive $50 off the two-day conference registration fee.
