Still Life Photography

Learn the tricks of creating still life photos.

Content Detail

In this four-part course, participants will explore artistic still life photography and learn techniques from a former commercial advertising photographer.

Tricks of the trade will be shared and participants will enjoy freedom to choose their subject matter and to depict their subjects in a way that fulfills their artistic vision.

Photographing indoors provides the benefit of an environment free of wind and rain and allows for long exposures. Participants will learn how to make best use of natural light, choosing optimum subject placement relative to the available light, then using light modifiers to enhance the image to fine degrees.

Participants will explore image capture and post-processing techniques to realize the greatest potential within their chosen subject. Both color and black-and-white imaging will be discussed and studied, highlighting the opportunities offered by each.

Prior still life photography experience is not necessary; however, close-up or macro photography experience will be most beneficial.

A sturdy tripod is highly recommended.

This program meets in person at the Arboretum.
