They say, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” and this is true of your garden, too! Whether you grow vegetables or flowers, natives or annuals—there are things you can do now to have your best garden yet in 2026.

In this free, single-session workshop at The Morton Arboretum, connect with other gardeners and hear from gardening experts on what to do now for success in the garden next year. This program will cover all aspects of garden maintenance from the ground up to improve your soil, protect valuable pollinators, and let your yard thrive.

Presented in partnership by The GardenWorks Project, University of Illinois Extension, Kane-DuPage Soil & Water Conservation District, and The Morton Arboretum.

Jamie Viebach, horticulture educator with the University of Illinois Extension, is passionate about native plants and backyard gardening. With a master’s in environmental biology, she enjoys sharing her love of nature and community stewardship and helping others to create beautiful, sustainable spaces that support local ecosystems.
