Learn to transform your kitchen into a culinary haven with the convenience of fresh herbs at your fingertips. If you’re looking to start growing herbs inside or move your herb plants in for winter, this class at The Morton Arboretum covers the best practices—and common pitfalls—of growing herbs indoors. No matter the size of your living space, you can have a thriving herb garden in your home.

This program will focus on:

  • Basic herb propagation techniques
  • Which herbs can thrive indoors
  • How to choose the right containers and soil
  • Proper lighting and watering techniques
  • Tips for maintaining healthy, flourishing herbs

Students will receive a pot and materials to begin their own mini indoor herb garden at home.

This program meets in person at the Arboretum.

Kasey Bersett Eaves started growing edibles and her treasured sunflowers at age two on her family’s farm property in southern Illinois. Now, as owner of Vivant Gardening Services, she spends her days making gardening approachable to area residents, restaurants, schools, and more. She encourages using edibles, natives, and pollinator plants, even in a city’s unusual spaces. She loves finding creative and low-maintenance growing solutions for all kinds of gardens.

Bring a notebook, pen, and water.

Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. If you have a pair of garden gloves, we recommend bringing them along. We will be doing some propagation on site during this program.
