Photography Workshop: Capture Light in the Golden Hour

Capture nature’s most photogenic moment—the golden hour just before sunset.

Content Detail

Work under the guidance of a professional instructor to take photographs on Arboretum grounds during the golden hour, that desirable moment just before sunset when the light provides a warm, golden-hued glow. Participants will learn how to use camera settings and compose a shot to best capture the scene, as well as experiment with front-lighting, backlighting, rim lighting, and silhouettes.

Bring your camera. DSLR, point-and-shoot, and film cameras are all welcome.

During this three-hour workshop, the class will:

  • Define the golden hour
  • Evaluate and understand light conditions of the golden hour
  • Learn to compose a subject or subjects in an outdoor setting
  • Learn how to select lighting techniques that enhance the subject
  • Review and evaluate work in the classroom if time permits
