Content Detail

The Brazilian Rain Tree (Chloroleucon tortum) is a type of bonsai tree with smooth bark that tends to exfoliate, creating a striking image. A rain tree’s trunk will begin to twist and change shape as it matures. The tree has small compound leaves that will fold slightly shut at night.

The primary focus of this workshop will be on styling the tree both with wire and branch selection. The instructor will provide seasonal tips so that your tree will stay healthy for years to come. All skill levels are welcome.

This program meets on-site at the Arboretum.

Health and Safety: Program participants must abide by the Arboretum’s health and safety guidelines. Guidelines are subject to change, so please check back frequently.


  • Supplies: Price includes Brazlian Rain tree. Material selection is by lottery drawing
  • Students are asked to bring in what tools they have on hand. Extra tools will be provided by Prairie State. Limit 8

Linda Camp has been involved in bonsai for over 20 years. She is the co-owner of BC Bonsai and has been leading workshops for over 12 years. BC Bonsai has won many ribbons and nationally judged shows at the professional level.
