Backyard Composting for Beginners

Discover the basics of backyard composting and composting with worms.

Content Detail

Compost is the result of broken-down organic materials—a dark crumbly material that improves the structure and texture of the soil, enabling it to better retain nutrients, moisture, and air around plant roots. You can buy compost in bags, but it’s easy, affordable, and eco-friendly to make your own.

Making your own compost is great for your garden and for the planet. It reduces the amount of organic waste you throw away, it reduces the need for chemical fertilizers to help plants grow, and it decreases the amount of water needed in your garden.

Bring all your composting questions to this class and learn how to turn your kitchen scraps and yard waste into wonderfully rich, free compost—black gold for your garden.
