As the Grant Administrator for the Chicago Region Trees Initiative, Elizabeth McDermott focuses on supporting grant partners in the seven-county Chicago region and throughout the state of Illinois. She seeks to build community capacity by assisting partners in carrying out grant projects and making CRTI’s grant programs accessible for partners of all sizes and backgrounds. She also supports the CRTI team by seeking out funding opportunities, overseeing grant data and impact reporting, and conducting community outreach and education.

McDermott was drawn to urban and community forestry through her educational background in sustainability and environmental health. Her previous professional experience was concentrated on environmental education surrounding native plants and wildlife and climate change with the University of Illinois Extension service. In her current role with CRTI, McDermott brings together her administrative acumen with her deep passion for environmental justice, nature-based solutions, and community engagement.
