Godshalk Meadow is an open, grassy space on the West Side of The Morton Arboretum, just north of parking lot P-33 along the east branch of the DuPage River. East Side Main Trail Loop 1, which is paved at this point, goes through the meadow on its way to a river bridge leading to Lake Marmo, Spruce Hill, Joy Path, and connections to other West Side trails.
The trail passes the Godshalk Meadow evaluation beds where the Arboretum tests plants to see if they can be recommended for local landscapes and gardens.
Herbaceous perennials, ornamental grasses, shrub roses, evergreens, woody shrubs, shade trees, and small ornamental trees are evaluated long-term as they grow in this area. Arboretum research horticulturists evaluate their hardiness, resistance to disease and insects, growth rate and size, and other attributes including flowering, fragrance, and fall color. Visitors are encouraged to explore the area and find their favorite plants.
The meadow is named in memory of Clarence Godshalk, who was the first director of The Morton Arboretum from 1939 to 1966.

Hours: Godshalk Meadow is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to sunset.
Parking: The nearest available parking is in parking lot P-33.
Restrooms: Accessible, heated, and air conditioned restrooms are about a quarter of a mile away in the Visitor Center, through the underpass on the East SIde.
Seating: Benches are placed along West Side Main Trail Loop 1.
Accessibility: West Side Main Trail Loop 1 is paved most of the way through Godshalk Meadow, but the paving does not extend to the river bridge. Parking lot P-33 has a gravel surface.
Admission: Godshalk Meadow is included with Arboretum admission and open to all guests year-round.
Water: Drinking fountains are available in the Visitor Center.
