Knitting Basics

Find wellness and creativity through knitting.

Content Detail

Guided by knitting expert Lauren Incrocci, join the “slow fashion” movement and start a new hobby by learning how to knit. Knitting is an eco-friendly craft that uses few supplies, keeping one’s hands and mind engaged in just about any setting. Surrounded by nature, knitting can lower stress levels, brighten mood, and improve focus.

In this beginner’s knitting course at The Morton Arboretum, participants will learn:

  • Basic stitches, including cast on, knit, purl, and cast off
  • How to fix mistakes
  • How to read a pattern
  • The differences between knitting supplies and understanding knitting terminology

In this relaxed, social environment, students will use yarn and needles to finish a cozy cowl scarf.

Taking this course can be a gateway to learning a practical craft that creates useful items and soothes the mind.
