Nature in Macro: Photography Workshop (online and in person)

Learn the art of macro photography and capture nature up close in this workshop with The Morton Arboretum.

Content Detail

Participate in live, interactive sessions with your instructor and fellow students from the comfort of your home, where you will:

  • Explore the concept of macro photography and how it can bring nature to life in exciting new ways. 
  • Learn the foundational skills of creating macro compositions with your camera’s manual settings.
  • Get personalized feedback through supportive critique sessions.

Practice new skills and concepts with the support of your instructor during a field session on the grounds of the Arboretum. This is your chance to:

  • Experiment with your camera settings in an inspiring natural setting. 
  • Get on-the-spot direction and feedback from a professional photographer. 

Participants should have a camera with manual functions, such as a DSLR. This class is not intended for smartphone cameras.

Notes:

  • Please bring your fully charged camera and camera manual to the first class. 
  • Online sessions will take place using Zoom. A link will be provided to registrants by email. Click on the link to join the program at the scheduled date and time. 
  • The Zoom sessions will be recorded.
  • Please add education@mortonarb.org to your address book. You will receive an email from this address with the link to join class.
  • Automatically generated captions will be available.
  • In-person sessions will be held entirely outdoors; dress for extended time in cool weather. 
  • Limited to 15 participants.

Cora Jacobs, nature photographer

Cora Jacobs is both a nature and a street photographer. She has been teaching at The Morton Arboretum since 2012. She is also the nonfiction editor for Allium, A Journal of Poetry & Prose, and teaches both magazine editing and production at Columbia College Chicago.
