Discover the magic of Indigo dye through an introduction to the Indigo plant, the process of making a vat, methods of dye extraction, vat maintenance and examples of historical and contemporary art works including Shibori. In this hands-on studio class, students make an Indigo vat and use Shibori techniques to prep fabric and dye samples on cotton swatches. Final Shibori experiments on cotton and/or silk.

COVID-19 Precautions:

Program participants must abide by the Arboretum’s safety guidelines.

  • Please bring an apron or clothes ready for mess, rubber dish gloves that go past the wrist, a notebook and pen. All other supplies included.
