Interested in getting into gardening? Learn the basics you need to turn your yard into an appealing outdoor space. This live, online class will cover the foundational skills that every new gardener needs. You will learn:

  • what will grow well in your landscape based on your specific conditions,
  • how to pick out a good plant at the nursery (and what to avoid),
  • proper planting techniques so your new plants thrive,
  • plant care, including watering, mulching, fertilizing, and pest control, and
  • which gardening tools every gardener should own.

With a little know-how and support, you can become a successful home gardener. Bring your questions, and get ready for the growing season!

Heather Prince, horticulturist 

Heather Prince is a trained horticulturist specializing in trees, shrubs, and natives with a passion for connecting people with plants. She has been a part of the green industry for more than 20 years, including experience at The Morton Arboretum, Chicago Botanic Garden, The Growing Place, The Pizzo Group, Wannemaker’s Home & Garden, and the American Horticultural Society. Heather also relishes sharing her knowledge and experience by writing for garden publications and by teaching at The Morton Arboretum, Chicago Botanic Garden, Chicago Flower & Garden Show, Farnsworth House as well as garden clubs, groups, and industry gatherings.
