Learn the fundamentals of bird anatomy through drawing. Get tips for sketching birds from photos, specimens, and live birds. Over the course of this live, online session, you will 

  • practice blocking in basic body shapes and feather patterns, 
  • identify species-specific anatomical indicators, and
  • learn how to capture personality in your bird drawings.

Prerequisites:

Foundational drawing skills are recommended. 

Supplies:

Bring basic drawing supplies, including graphite pencils, a sketchbook, and a good eraser, such as a Pink Pearl. Colored pencils are optional.

 

Instructor: Carrie Carlson, nature artist

Carrie Carlson earned an MFA in Scientific Illustration at the University of Michigan and an MA in Printmaking from Governors State University. She is a full-time high school art teacher. In her free time, she loves to fill up travel sketchbooks and grow a rowdy garden.
