Colorful Shade Gardens (in person)

Achieve a colorful, vibrant garden, even in the shade.

Content Detail

Bring life and interest to even the shadiest parts of your garden or landscape with plant lists, design ideas, and maintenance tips for shade gardens. Horticulturist Marcy Stewart-Pyziak will cover:   

  • growing conditions in shady spots,   
  • choosing shrubs and perennials that thrive with limited sunlight, and  
  • using color to brighten up the garden.  

This is a great class for homeowners; no gardening experience required.  

This program meets in person at the Arboretum.

Health and Safety: Program participants must abide by the Arboretum’s health and safety guidelines. Guidelines are subject to change, so please check back frequently.

Marcy Stewart-Pyziak, horticulturist  

Marcy Stewart-Pyziak has a degree in horticulture from the University of Illinois and was a horticulturist with the University of Illinois extension service. She has taught classes at the Arboretum and the Chicago Botanic Garden since 1994, and she currently teaches at the College of DuPage. She designs, installs, and maintains landscapes in the Chicago area.
