Tips for Making Year-End Gifts

Make a gift to celebrate 100 years of trees and people as the Arboretum kicks off a yearlong centennial celebration. Your generous support this year will help propel the Arboretum forward through the Second Century Challenge. With a new or increased gift, you could make double or triple its impact through the Hamill Family Foundation’s $1 million matching gift opportunity.

This year, in recognizing the Arboretum’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, we encourage all donors to give online. If you prefer to make a contribution by mail, please consider mailing your gift soon to avoid postal service delays. Below are important details on how you can make your annual contribution to the Arboretum or renew your support in 2021.

Don’t wait! To be eligible for a 2021 tax deduction, your contribution must be received in one of the following ways:

  • By mail: Checks must be postmarked by Friday, December 31, and received by January 5, 2022.
  • Online: Gifts must be submitted with a credit card by 11:59 p.m. CST on December 31, 2021.
  • In person: Checks must be received at the Visitor Center Membership Desk before 3:00 p.m. on December 31.
  • By wire transfer: Gifts must be received by the Arboretum as a wire transfer or ACH from your financial institution before 4:00 p.m. CST on December 31.

Give securities, stock, or mutual funds: For assistance in making these contributions and for transfer details that can be shared with your financial institution, please contact Kelly Nolan, director of major gifts, at knolan@mortonarb.org or 630-725-2126.

Contribute from a charitable gift fund: For transfer details that can be shared with your financial institution, please contact Sarah Tobeck, director of giving societies, at stobeck@mortonarb.org or 630-725-2020.

Support the Arboretum with a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your IRA: If you are 72 or older and have an IRA, consider making a gift from your IRA directly to The Morton Arboretum. A gift made directly from your IRA to the Arboretum not only fulfills your philanthropy goals, but may also satisfy your required minimum distribution–all without generating taxable income. For more information, contact Jessica Anderson, major and planned giving officer, at janderson@mortonarb.org or 630-725-2146.

Include the Arboretum in your estate plans: To learn how you can make the Arboretum part of your legacy, please contact Jessica Anderson, major and planned giving officer, at janderson@mortonarb.org or 630-725-2146 for more information.
